Activities Overview

TABS participates in a number of national events throughout the year. Participation in these activities allows blind students from Texas to come together with students from around the nation in order to discuss issues that are of concern to all blind students. One such memorable event is the NFB National Convention. Everyone in attendance is informed of the Federation's accomplishments over the past year and of its goals for the near future. NABS holds its annual meeting to discuss its own progress within the Federation in much the same fashion as dozens of other divisions. Next year our national convention will be hosted in the beautiful city of Atlanta, Georgia. Be sure to check back periodically for details. Interested students also participate in Washington Seminar, an annual seminar held in Washington D.C., where students and adults speak directly to Congress about pending or proposed legislation pertaining to the blind in the United States. Click the link above to learn more of this year's agenda and legislative issues.

In addition to the National Convention, we strongly encourage everyone to participate in the annual State Convention of the NFB of Texas, this year to be held in Houston, Texas at the Hilton Hobby. (Check back for details.) After participating in the TABS' annual business meeting, students are introduced to a number of successful individuals from various professions. They are also provided with information about current affairs at the state level of the Federation. For up-to-date information on time and location of the convention, visit the NFB of Texas web site

The Texas Text Exchange is a program administered by the Texas A&M University designed to make textbooks available to blind students at participating universities around the state. Currently, there is a select number of active institutions, and TABS is proud to announce that a resolution calling for the expansion of this essential program to all colleges and universities was passed at the last state convention of the NFB of Texas. It is our goal to increase the availability of instructional materials for post secondary students, and our thanks extend to those individuals who have pledged their time and support in this crucial endeavor. David Sweeney, from Texas A&M University, was present at our conference to give a presentation about the service offered. To find out about the current program, visit The Texas Text Exchange online.
