In This Issue:

A Word From The President

At the time of this newsletter we are nearing the end of the term. The student division, along with its members, is always looking to do its
best with every event and publication that is done. And as a president, I am always happy to see individuals that come out and give it their
all for the organization.

This year our spring conference was a tremendous success. A big step was taken for the student division, as we expanded our reach
by going to Lubbock and coming out very satisfied with the results. TABS is also trying to reach out to our members by bringing TABS to you,
in the form of luncheons, picnics, and much more. The TABS team is hard at work to make this and much more happen in a city near you. But
the full report will be done at our annual state convention business meeting.

If you want to become more active in the organization, it is not impossible. We are always looking for individuals to help. But the best way
to get involved is to attend our events and different conventions that are held through out the year. The first convention is the State convention that
is going to be held in San Antonio November 9 through the 11. And not to be forgotten, the national convention set to be held in Dallas in the
summer of 2008.

With no further ado, I welcome you to this addition of Keeping TABS. If you would like to submit an article, please do so. We are always
looking for stories that show the success of the blind.

Sincerely,

Jose A. Z. Martinez, President

Texas Association of Blind Students
2006-Present

The Influence of The federation at The National Level
by Jennifer Applegate

As a sophomore at Tomball College the 2007 National Federation of the Blind convention was very different for me, as I joined with NFB members to raise money and awareness about misconceptions of blindness.  The first night I helped sell karaoke tickets with Blind Inc. Tuesday morning was the first annual March for Independence where blind and sighted people walked to send a message to the country that blind people can unify for positive awareness and change.

College Graduation:  Are You Really Ready?
By Jose Marquez

I graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies in December of 2006 and in June of 2007 I managed to obtain a job with Cornerstone America which is an insurance company for life and health insurance as a Fiel Service Representative.  I started to prepare for my job hunt a semester or two  before graduation.  How did I do this?
